Dr. Bashiru Dawodu, a member of the ECOWAS Community Parliament and the Nigerian delegation, has voiced frustration over the persistent failure to implement resolutions adopted at delocalized meetings and approved during plenary sessions.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the joint delocalized meeting in Cotonou, Benin, Dawodu acknowledged that the current Parliament has seen notable improvements—particularly the allocation of a dedicated budget for oversight activities, which he described as a step forward compared to previous legislatures.
However, he highlighted the ongoing struggles with the Protocol on the Free Movement of Goods and Services. Despite conducting oversight missions on the matter, Dawodu stated that various barriers continue to obstruct full implementation.
“You are talking about a union of member states, and Parliament is not happy about the situation that the protocol is not being implemented,” he said. “We should not come here and be talking, talking without seeing results.”
