Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. has praised the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Human Rights for conducting what he called one of the most informative confirmation hearings he has attended, involving Cllr. Betty M. Lamin Blamo, Minister of Justice Designate, and Cllr. Abraham Boimah Sillah, Solicitor General Designate.
In a statement, Snowe commended the committee, chaired by Sen. Cllr. Augustine Chea, for a thorough and insightful hearing.
According to Snowe, Cllr. Blamo outlined a clear vision for the Ministry of Justice and expressed full confidence in Cllr. Sillah’s ability to help implement it. She emphasized ensuring fair and speedy trials for detainees, reducing prison overcrowding, and improving conditions in detention facilities to uphold human dignity.
The Minister of Justice Designate also committed to combating illicit drugs and holding accountable traffickers, consumers, financiers, and individuals who use their positions of influence to shield those involved, regardless of their status. She assured the committee that those indicted would receive fair and impartial trials, free from interference.
Most significantly, Snowe said, Cllr. Blamo stated that the Ministry’s only clients would be the Government of Liberia and the citizens of Liberia — a message Snowe described as clear and reassuring regarding her intention to depoliticize the Ministry and ensure it serves all Liberians impartially.
Snowe said he hopes his colleagues, exercising their usual wisdom and sound judgment, will give both nominees favorable consideration so the Ministry can fulfill its mandate with renewed integrity, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law. He wished both nominees well.
