President Alassane Ouattara hosts Dr. Omar Alieu Touray in Abidjan for final official visit
ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire — ECOWAS Commission President Dr. Omar Alieu Touray paid a farewell visit to Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara on Wednesday, marking the end of his four-year tenure at the helm of the West African regional bloc.
The meeting, held in Abidjan, came as Dr. Touray’s term officially concluded in July 2026. During the audience, the outgoing Commission President expressed deep appreciation for President Ouattara’s steadfast support throughout his leadership.
“President Ouattara’s guidance and the Ivorian people’s commitment to regional integration have been instrumental to our collective progress,” Dr. Touray said.
A tenure marked by complex challenges
Reflecting on his term, Dr. Touray acknowledged the significant political, economic, social, and security hurdles facing the region. He credited the support of West African leaders — particularly President Ouattara — for helping the Commission navigate these difficult periods.
The visit underscores the diplomatic ties between the ECOWAS Commission and its member states as the regional body prepares for leadership transition.
