Nana Yirenkyi I dismisses social media rumors as false and malicious

The Mampong Akuapem Apesemakahene, Nana Yirenkyi I, has categorically refuted social media claims that the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Hon. Sammi Awuku, has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

In a statement to the press, the traditional leader described the allegations as entirely false and urged the public to disregard them.

According to Nana Yirenkyi I, the MP was present at the Eastern Regional delegates conference held at Asamankese yesterday, where he actively participated in the voting process before proceeding to other scheduled engagements.

Describing Hon. Sammi Awuku as a diligent and widely respected parliamentarian, Nana Yirenkyi I suggested that the rumors were part of a deliberate effort to damage the MP’s reputation.

“Some individuals are intentionally working to tarnish the image of our brother and hardworking MP, but their efforts will not succeed,” he stated.

The traditional leader further noted that any legitimate arrest of a sitting Member of Parliament by EOCO would be accompanied by an official statement from the appropriate authorities—a development that has not occurred.

Nana Yirenkyi I cautioned those behind the false information, reminding them that Ghana’s laws provide for legal consequences against individuals found to have deliberately disseminated misleading information.

He called on the public to exercise restraint and rely on verified information from official sources rather than unsubstantiated social media posts.

“Attempts to damage the reputation of Hon. Sammi Awuku through false allegations will not succeed,” he affirmed.
