The ECOWAS Commission, through its Political Affairs Directorate, has reaffirmed its commitment to youth inclusion in West African democratic systems by co-organizing the inaugural West Africa Youth Conference on Democracy. The conference is being co-organized with LEGIS360, a youth organization that promotes the defense of rights, development, and public awareness, and is taking place from September 8 to 10, 2026, in Dakar, Senegal.
Under the theme “From Activism to Power: Re-evaluating the Political Inclusion of Young People in West Africa and Promoting a Regional Agenda for Democratic Governance,” the conference aims to provide a high-level regional platform to assess progress made, analyze persistent obstacles, and promote political and institutional reforms based on concrete data. It seeks to strengthen the meaningful inclusion of young people in democratic governance and political decision-making in ECOWAS member states.
