Rivers State — Traditional rulers in the Ngo Urban Council of Traditional Rulers, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, have presented the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Rep. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, with a symbolic “sword of authority” for the political battle ahead of the 2027 election.
The sword was presented to Abiante at his ancestral home in Ngo Town by leaders and members of the Egwunyile and Uwuile royal families after the traditional rulers endorsed his senatorial ambition and prayed for his success.
His Highness, Chief Ekeneoreawaji Dagomie Abiante Ubulomaji, Head of the Egwunyile Group of Families in Ngo, said the sword represented the authority and responsibility required to confront political obstacles and overcome the battles on the road to the Senate.
Prince T.A.U. Otuyork, National Chairman of the Egwunyile Royal Family, Amadaka, Egede, described the presentation as a commissioning into a “new boat,” expressing confidence that Abiante’s experience in the House of Representatives would prepare him for effective representation in the Senate.
Earlier at Obolo Hall, opposite the Andoni Local Government Area Secretariat, Ngo, the Executive Chairman of the Council, High Chief Abraham D.B. Obiobio (IV), said the traditional rulers could not ignore one of their own sons, urging the people to consider Abiante’s antecedents and legislative experience.
He expressed hope that Abiante would make history as the first son of Andoni to represent Rivers South-East in the Senate.
Also speaking, Sir Hon. Ugbana Martin Isaruk, National Chairman of the Uwuile Royal House of Ngo Town, said the sword signified “further developmental projects and greater exploits,” urging the people of Andoni and the entire senatorial district to support the candidate.
Responding, Abiante thanked the traditional rulers for the recognition and support, saying he appeared before them because he understood and respected the customs, culture and traditions of his people.
He described the 2027 contest as a choice between justice and injustice, inclusion and exclusion, and freedom and domination, declaring: “I am a man of justice. I will not follow injustice, no matter how enticing it has been.”
Abiante, who chairs the House Committee on Urban and Regional Planning, also urged voters not to be swayed by monetary inducements but to consider the long-term development of their communities, particularly infrastructure and youth development. He pledged to work for justice, freedom, inclusion and development while calling for unity among the people.
He was accompanied by NDC candidates for the state House of Assembly from Andoni, Khana, Gokana, Eleme, Oyigbo, Tai and Opobo/Nkoro constituencies, as well as the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro, Capt. Emiare Etete.
