The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, officially received the credentials of six new diplomatic envoys on Tuesday at the Commission’s new headquarters in Abuja.
The accreditation ceremony marks the formal beginning of diplomatic relations between the West African regional bloc and the representatives of their respective nations and organizations.
Newly Accredited Diplomats
The diplomats who presented their letters of credence to Dr. Touray are:
· H.E. Anna Westerholm – Ambassador of Sweden
· H.E. Nicolas Perazzo Naon – Ambassador of Argentina
· H.E. Ghulam Muhammad Awan – Head of Delegation, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
· H.E. Walde Natangwe Ndevashiya – High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia
· H.E. Cholamreza Mahdavi Raja – Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran
· H.E. Mohamed Abdelaal Haroun – Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan
Commitment to Partnership and Integration
Following the official presentation, President Touray extended his congratulations to the envoys on their new postings. He reiterated ECOWAS’s commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening long-standing ties with the represented countries and organizations.
“Sustainable partnerships are essential to our mission,” Dr. Touray stated. “We look forward to working closely to promote peace, security, and inclusive economic development across the region and beyond.”
He highlighted the shared goals of fostering regional integration, enhancing global security, and driving sustainable development in West Africa.
Envoys Pledge Support
Speaking on behalf of the newly accredited diplomats, the envoys expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended by the ECOWAS Commission. They reaffirmed their dedication to closer collaboration and pledged continued support for ECOWAS-led initiatives focused on humanitarian aid, peacekeeping, and regional stability.
