President Diop calls integration a “strategic necessity” as bloc faces security, economic, and geopolitical pressures
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Birame Diop, has issued a rallying cry for renewed solidarity and stronger international partnerships as West Africa battles escalating security threats, economic instability, and global geopolitical shifts.
“Regional integration is not merely an option; it is a strategic necessity. It is the most effective pathway towards building a prosperous, resilient and inclusive West Africa,” Diop declared.
Speaking at a high-level meeting with ambassadors, development partners, and international organisations in Abuja on Friday, the ECOWAS chief emphasised that the 50-year-old bloc is entering a pivotal new chapter.
