BOMI COUNTY, Liberia – Senator Edwin Snowe Jr. has inspected ongoing renovation works at the C. H. Dewey Sports Stadium, praising the local government’s commitment to sports development in the Western Region.
The project, spearheaded by Bomi County Superintendent and her team, includes fencing, players’ dressing rooms, and VIP stands – improvements Snowe described as “an important investment in the future of sports in Bomi County.”
Snowe Urges LFA Support for Artificial Turf
Senator Snowe appealed to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to consider Bomi County as a beneficiary of its FIFA Financial Assistance Programme stadium development initiatives.
“Installing artificial turf would significantly upgrade the facility and enable it to host County Meet matches, LFA-organized competitions, and other major sporting events,” Snowe stated.
He also called on the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to provide direct investment support for the stadium’s continued development.
Local Employment a Key Highlight
The Senator commended the project’s emphasis on local participation, noting that the contract was awarded to a local contractor who has engaged approximately 85% of the workforce from Bomi County.
“This is the kind of development we should encourage – projects that improve infrastructure, create jobs, build local capacity, and keep economic opportunities within our communities,” Snowe said.
He specifically praised Contractor Fahnbullah for the quality of work and commitment demonstrated toward ensuring an excellent finish.
A Regional Vision for the Western Region
Drawing parallels to the recent elevation of Bomi Community College to Western Region University, Snowe emphasized that the stadium’s vision should extend beyond Bomi County.
“A modern stadium in Bomi will serve not only our people, but also our brothers and sisters in Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu Counties, which, together with Bomi, constitute the Western Region,” he noted.
“This is an investment in our young people, our local economy, and the future of sports throughout the Western Region.”
The Senator concluded by commending the Superintendent, her team, the contractor, and local workers for the progress made thus far, expressing optimism for the project’s successful completion.
